5 Ways to Refresh for Spring

It's been a while! I've missed writing blog posts and talking to you guys about my blog over on Instagram. We went into another lockdown since my last post and it was honestly the hardest lockdown so far, which is why I didn't feel like writing anything.

We are in May and I thought a spring refresh would be the perfect topic to write about as it feels a bit like the new year, a new beginning, with the rules being relaxed in the UK (thank you Jesus!!!) and life slowly going back to normal. I, for one, am getting my mojo back and it feels SO good! Here are 5 ways to refresh for spring.

  • Brainstorm new intentions- use your laptop or a notebook to write out your overall intentions for this season. I love to plan, I love new seasons, I love Sundays, any excuse to reset my focus and intentions for the coming week. Don't overcomplicate things, it has to make sense and be applicable to your life. Here are some examples I wrote down: Start a workout programme and combine this with good, whole nutrition, sleep early, prep and plan my home and environment for spring.

  • Realign your intentions & values- sit down and think about whether your values are in alignment with the life you want to live. Do your daily actions and routine reflect the intentions you hold? My intentions in the winter were healing, resting and manifesting; for spring I'm focusing on discipline, vulnerability, nurturing relationships and mindfulness. Your values will change over time and I think it's a good opportunity to refresh them before entering into a new season. Also, do the people you choose to surround yourself with reflect the values you hold? Do you walk away from them feeling energised, uplifted and loved or do you feel drained and never fully comfortable? Life is too short...I know it's cheesy but it's true. It's not worth wasting time on people who don't add any value and positivity to your existence.

  • Spring cleaning- look around the space you're in right now and think about what you can do to improve your surroundings. It can be as simple as just opening the windows on a nice spring day, cleaning out your fridge and pantry and buying yourself some fresh flowers (I get mine from my garden!). If a full spring clean is too overwhelming at first, go from room to room and do a 5 minute declutter or tidy; you'd be amazed at what a difference a 5 minute clean can do.

  • Simplify- this is something I'm getting better at the older I get. I am getting more comfortable with living with less and more awareness that I need less. This doesn't only apply to your space (e.g. cleaning your closet, clearing out your garage or making sure that everything in your home has a purpose), you can also simplify your routine, relationships and career. Downsize and simplify the amount of things that take up energetic space in your life wherever you can.

  • Start something new- is there something you have always wanted to do but never got around to it or you never had the motivation to see it through? For me, it was fitness & nutrition. I'd been physically active on and off for the past 3 years but I never stuck to anything consistently for more than 4 months. In March 2021 I set myself short term workout goals; initially I aimed to complete a 5 week beginners' programme. Once I completed that, I set myself a subsequent goal of working out 6 times a week for the next 12 weeks- I'm currently on week 3 of my 12 week goal and I'm excited to see my progress! 8 weeks of eating well has transformed my tastebuds, I no longer crave chocolate and takeaways every day and when I do choose to indulge (in moderation) I actually can't wait to revert back to the healthy eating as it's become my new normal. I can't believe myself that I've committed to this and haven't given up (so far) and that feels really good!
